House, Accomodation and Camping

Princess Helena College is a girl's boarding school set in beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, five miles south of Hitchin and easily accessible by road or rail. The main house is Georgian, much enlarged by Edwin Lutyens in 1908. The extensive gardens were designed by the renowned garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, a great friend of Lutyens. The formal gardens and the 183 acres of parkland provide an idyllic and safe environment for our children and parents/guardians.

The House

There is a choice of accommodation. In the house there is a choice of pleasant bedrooms of various sizes. There are a limited number of private rooms and these will be allocated to early applicants. Parents should bring a sleeping bag (or duvet and cover), undersheet and pillow case; pillows are provided and duvets are available for hire.

Alternatively, and as perhaps befits a music camp, the more adventurous may like to camp in the grounds in front of the house. A room with washbasins, loos and shower facility is provided for campers within the house.

I want to make good citizens. If a child
hears fine music from the day of his
birth and learns to play
it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline and endurance. He gets
a beautiful heart. Shin'ichi Suzuki
